My Skin Hero™ FAQs
Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and as we age our levels of collagen decrease, so supplementing a healthy diet with collagen powder shots is an easy way to boost collagen levels.
Within a few weeks of including collagen powder shots in your diet, you should notice an improvement in your skin - it will look more hydrated, firmer, smoother and plumper. Some of the questions we get asked most regarding collagen, include:

What is Hydrolysed Marine Collagen?
Hydrolysed collagen is a common type of collagen that is created using a process called hydrolysis. This process breaks down the protein into smaller pieces, making it easier for the body to absorb. The percentage of collagen that is absorbed into your body when ingested (bioavailability) is critical to the effectiveness of the supplement.
Bioavailability largely determines how well any nutrient you ingest works. The problem with collagen molecules is that they are huge, so unless they’ve been hydrolysed, they are just too huge to be absorbed when ingested, and therefore can’t reach the dermis - the underlying layer of the skin where the collagen is.
The collagen in My Skin Hero™ is absorbed quickly in the body and able to go where needed.
What is the evidence supporting collagen supplementation?
A number of studies have shown that taking collagen supplements may improve skin elasticity, hydration, and decrease the appearance of wrinkles. A review of 19 studies that included 1,125 participants (95% women) between the ages of 20 and 70 found that taking hydrolysed collagen improved skin hydration, elasticity, and wrinkles compared with placebo treatments.
What sort of dose is recommended?
The doses of collagen shown to be effective for improving skin health in research studies vary, though most studies have used 2.5–15 grams per day for 8 weeks or longer.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
The Hyaluronic Acid (HA) found in My Skin Hero™ is Sodium hyaluronate - the salt form of HA and is a water-soluble salt that holds 1000 times its weight in water. This way the HA is more stable and less likely to oxidise. Sodium hyaluronate has a much lower molecular size than standard HA, which allows it to penetrate better.
Why are vitamin C and B vitamins included?
Vitamin C -this is a micronutrient which have been confirmed to contribute to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin, bones, and cartilage.*
B Vitamins – several of the B vitamins, including riboflavin, biotin and niacin that have been confirmed to contribute to the maintenance of normal skin.* Additionally, biotin, has been confirmed to contribute to the maintenance of normal hair.*

Is the product suitable for everyone?
Collagen supplements have a good safety profile and are not associated with adverse side effects. Avoid if you have a fish allergy.
Also, as My Skin Hero™ contains added vitamin C and vitamins B, please be aware of this. You may not wish to supplement with any other supplements containing
these vitamins. If you’re taking other medications or you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, make sure to speak with a healthcare professional before you start taking My Skin Hero™.
How else can I protect against collagen loss and damage?
The degree to which collagen production decreases differs from one individual to another. Research shows that it can be accelerated through certain lifestyle choices, including smoking, sun exposure, consuming a diet rich in ultra-processed food and added sugars, and excessive alcohol consumption. So, eat a balanced diet high invegetables, fruit, and other nutrient-dense foods, whilst avoiding smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and sun exposure.

What is the scientific evidence regarding mushrooms for immune support?
Mushrooms have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years and now Western studies have caught on and confirmed the chemical pathways, which lead to mushrooms’ powerful and beneficial effects.
Reishi and Chaga have been shown to have a potentially beneficial impact on immunity, mainly due to something known as polysaccharopeptides (PSP) which are long chains of carbohydrates that are inside mushroom’s proteins.
Reishi mushroom has been shown to promote white blood cell count and these cells are involved in cell signalling and combatting harmful invaders.
The Chaga mushroom has been shown to fight inflammation. And whilst inflammation is part of a normal and healthy immune response, like when we injure ourselves, inferior and poor cell signalling can result in chronic (long-term) inflammation, which is something we don’t want. Chronic and long-term inflammation can lead to stress, poor sleep, illness, and disease. To combat this - it is vital to reduce inflammation, and these mushrooms will help the immune system revert to normal, healthy functioning.
Mushrooms (especially Maitake) are also packed with antioxidants (natural chemicals that fight oxidative stress) preventing free-radical damage from environmental attackers, such as pollution, thus reducing the risk of diseases that come from this damage.
In addition to these powerful benefits, research has also shown that mushrooms may:
•Support gut health (remember 70-80% of the immune system is in the gut!) and healthy digestion
•Boost memory
•Promote energy
•Decrease tiredness and fatigue
•Improve mood and wellbeing
•Promote healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels
•Boost physical and athletic performance, helping to reduce the stress of physical activity
Why are the vitamins C, B3,B6 and the minerals zinc and selenium included?
These immunity-nourishing micronutrients have been included as they have been shown to support the immune system in numerous ways.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) which is the agency of the European Union that provides independent scientific advice have confirmed that Vitamin C, B6, zinc and selenium all contribute to the normal function of the immune system,
which is why they have been carefully selected to be included in My Immune Hero™.
Is My Immune Hero™ suitable for everyone?
My Immune Hero™ isn’t recommended for children, pregnant or lactating women.
How else can I support my immune system?
Eat a nutritious, varied, and balanced diet, ensure sufficient sleep, minimise stress and enjoy adequate exercise (not too much or too little – 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise weekly and at least two strength sessions, such as Pilates, yoga, or weight training).
