Supple hydrated skin

How does Hyaluronic Acid support Skin?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a gel-like, gooey substance that is able to keep in moisture. It is found in our joints, connective tissue (ligaments, tendons etc) and even eyes. Our bodies also make hyaluronic acid ensuring our skin stays supple and soft.

But we make less hyaluronic acid as we age, and from the age of 25 our skin's production of this amazing substance gradually reduces - this means our skin loses moisture quicker as well as volume, leading to fine lines appearing and our first wrinkles. Yikes!

The hyaluronic acid found in My Skin Hero is sodium hyaluronate - the salt form of hyaluronic acid. It is water soluble and holds an incredible 1000 times its weight in water!

Hyaluronic acid also helps your body synthesise and promote collagen, so you can get the benefits in your skin and also your joints.

Hydrating, brightening hyaluronic acid and plumping collagen work a treat together, hence they are included in  My Skin Hero. The hyaluronic acid locks in moisture whilst the collagen helps keep the skin firm - double whammy.

Interesting facts about Hyaluronic Acid:

  1. It is actually a type of carbohydrate called a polysaccharide.
  2. It helps defend against damaging and harmful free radicals
  3. Prevents UV damage—these are two main culprits of premature aging
  4. Studies suggest that intra-articular hyaluronic acid treatment is as effective at decreasing pain as NSAID pain relief in individuals affected by knee osteoarthritis (OA).
